The upper contents page is the final version of mine, I still have my house-style with the black and white image in the main focus and the Impact font in which I wrote my articles and page numbers, but my masthead is still written in the old English font.

I oriented myself on the contents page of the magazine RapFanatics on the image below, in which the main focus is on the image and the articles are placed on the right side as well.

 

 

Magazine Front Cover

 

This is my final version of my front cover of Rapped Up, I added an extra picture, because I thought, It needed something more visually enticing.

 

 

 

This is my draft
version of my Front Cover, as you can see I took a photo of Devon, that was already mentioned in the double page spread article, I cropped him out of the background and set it on black and white. After that I thought about some catchy artist names I could put in the front, all of this was written in the font Impact, except The Masthead, which is old English. I oriented myself at an Billboard magazine example as seen below.

The Photo shooting itself

We had a couple of different lights and equipment for our photo shooting that we could use, even though that fact, I did not use any equipment, because my friends had all I needed for those photos by themselves, I only used different lightning and took the images with a digital camera.

ANATOMY OF A MAGAZINE COVER

PRELIMINARY TASK EVALUATION

In my completed front cover on the bottom right corner there is my magazine cover image with the top story written down in a bigger caption over it, on the left side of it we have two other side story and under this we got the price and the barcode.

 

On my Contents page I used the same colour as on my front cover, I also listed up the top stories of the magazine on the left side, I put Mike Makin on the side, he is just watching over all the readers. On the bottom there is another picture I took of one of our classmates, I combined it with a story about the Photography club.


But to create the Cover and the Contents page, I had to look at some examples to find some guidance to find out how to design it.

Preparing the front cover image

I took a picture of the entrance of our college to put it in the background of my cover photo and I took a Medium Close Up Shot of one of our classmates in a relative plain background to crop it out with Photoshop. So I cropped it out and did some minor adjustments and put it over the other picture, which I edited as well, I made it a bit darker . For the background I did a Long Shot.

On of our other tasks was taking photos in different perspectives and under certain circumstances such as balance, lines , contrast, colour, pattern and framing. We also had to take care of different shot sizes (Extreme Close Up, Medium Close up, Mid Shot, Long Shot, Extreme Long Shot).

Preliminary Task

In our preliminary task we had to design the front cover and the content page of our own individual college magazine.
In order to do this task we had to take photos for both of these pages, our classmates were kind of "models" for this. After we took the photos we had to edit them in Photoshop and after the editing we designed the pages with the program InDesign.
